As CNC machining, electro-polishing and anodizing takes place under one roof, Protomet has the unique ability to flow entire kits for its clients – something less than 1% of finishing facilities can do. Protomet’s in-house capabilities translate to improved quality and reduced cost.
Protomet works with its customers and their engineers to develop concepts, then creates 3D printed parts for customer review. After customer review, Protomet immediately creates prototype parts. This step of the process is where design for manufacturing (“value engineering”) comes into play. The ability to impact cost is greatest during rapid prototyping, and this is where Protomet adds unparalleled value for the companies it serves.
Protomet now provides laser cutting technologies to broaden its offerings. Whenever necessary, Protomet utilizes laser cutting to reduce costs and improve quality for its customers. In some situations, this is the best approach for small or thin parts.
Protomet recently expanded its welding capabilities with both TIG and MIG welding offerings.
All assembly takes place in Protomet’s 40,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The electropolishing process provides a premium finish that clients want, while the anodizing process protects the finish of Protomet’s parts. Having all of these processes in a single location – something only Protomet provides – allows the company to flow entire kits, reduces cost and improves product quality.
